Earth Day

Earth Day is observed all over the world on 22nd of April. This event is celebrated in order to increase the awareness among people about the environment safety as well as to demonstrate the environmental protection measures. The earth day was celebrated for the first time, in the year 1970 and then it was celebrated globally on an annual basis by almost 192 countries. This year the theme for the Earth day was “Trees for the Earth”.

The members of the West Bengal Youth Network, named as the Youth Challengers and children groups of LGWCDC joined participated in the programme which started at around 4.00 p.m. The participants took an initiative to clean the road along the Bangur Park. They picked up the thrown away plastics and papers and put them in the garbage bags, After this the youth members visited and interacted with the local residents, rickshaw pullers, shop keepers etc, and explained to them the importance of the World Earth Day and took their valuable feedback. It was found that many of these people have become conscious about the global warming. They also felt that everyone should come forward and stop cutting trees - plant more trees to save our Mother Planet.

All the participants sang the song “Jodi Tor Dak Shune Keu Na Ashe”, the programme concluded at 5.00 p.m. About 135 members participated and made the programme a grand success
