Child Protection Day

LGWCDC observed Child Protection Day on 8th June 2016 at Bantra, Howrah. The day started with a rally from Bantra outpost to Tikiapara Railway/ Bus station. About 70 children, youths and adults participated in the rally.

On reaching Tikiapara railway station, members of children group performed a Street Drama on Child Trafficking. The story starts with a young girl called Misti seen playing with her friends, her mother and father leave for work and after some time the friends also leave and she is playing alone when one man came and told her that he would take her to a fair. Misti agreed and on the way the man drugged her and trafficked her to another person for 1 lac rupees. When Misti’s mother came home from work she could not find her, she searched everywhere, enquired from her friends and finally along with Misti’s father goes to file a complaint with the Police, the Police take the complaint and with the aid of an NGO rescues Misti , they also inform the parents about the rights of the child.

After the Street Drama, Mr.Akramul Haque, elaborated on the rights of the child and informed how a child can protect himself/herself from the vices of Society. The children actively participated in the discussion. A total of 74 persons attended the discussion session

Simultaneously a signature campaign was also held were individuals pledged that they would protect the rights of children and help any child who is found in a distressed condition.
