30 yrs of UNCRC Child Rights and Gender Violence

The organizations - TdH Germany, Nishtha, Lake Gardens Women & Children Development Centre (LGWCDC) and L'albero Della Vita – came together to organize an event to reflect on current status of children's rights with special focus on gender - especially the high rate of gender based violence in the country and the state of West Bengal.
The program was held on 7th December 2019 at R.K.Mission Golpark, Kolkata.
Profr. Ishita Mukhopadhay gave a deliberation on Gender Based Violence in the current Context. This was followed by a book reading session on the book "No Nation for Women" by Priyanka Dubey and a conversation of the Author with Senior Journalist, Columnist & Commentator Shikha Mukherjee. The session was chaired by Ms.Krishna Mukherjee
3 Youth Speakers from Baruipur in South 24 Parganas and Sudeb from Varta Trust shared their experiences on Gender Violence. The session was chaired by Ms.Shampa Sengupta, Founder –Director of Shruti Disability Rights Centre , a non funded advocacy group that works on disability and gender rights.
Ms.Swati Bhattacharya , Journalist of AnandaBazar Patrika spoke on the Role of media with focus on responsible coverage and reporting. She highlighted on the need for documentation. This session was chaired by Dr.Kaveri Chakroborty, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Calcutta.
Dr. Satyajit Dasgupta, a senior academic & legal Aid & Human Rights Professional along with Mr.Sukanta Saha,SDO,Diamond Harbour & Mr. Partha Sarathi Majumdar , Police Inspector , Alipore discussed on the Justice System in context of gender crimes, the present situation , gaps & improvements.
